The Congressional Award

The Congressional Award Foundation is Congress' only non-profit, with the Congressional Award being the highest honor for youth civilians since 1973.

Every year, the Congressional Award Foundation honors individuals aged 13 ½ through 23 for their accomplishments and achievements, awarding certificates and medals based on four categories:

  1. Voluntary Public Service
  2. Personal Development
  3. Physical Fitness
  4. Expedition/Exploration

Certificates and medals are awarded at three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Participating in organizations such as 4-H and Scouting, school and extracurricular sports, as well as school and community clubs are just a few great examples of the work needed to earn Congressional Award medals and certificates.

Gold medalists are invited to Washington, D.C. every June to receive their award at a ceremony organized by Congress and the Foundation.
