U.S. Congressman Flood Votes “No” on the Omnibus Spending Spree

December 22, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement after voting against the 4,155-page, $2 trillion omnibus spending package.

“I cast an emphatic ‘no’ on this spending spree, which comes at a time when Washington, D.C. needs to stop the spending. Everyday Americans continue to endure inflation inflicted on them by Joe Biden’s policies, and this $2 trillion omnibus will almost certainly continue to feed the inflation that is eroding the incomes of working families across the country.”

“Beyond the headline number, the omnibus has all sorts of special deals and pork tucked into it, including giving $200 million for gender programs in Pakistan and naming a federal building in honor of Nancy Pelosi. This omnibus even provides over $400 million in foreign aid to improve border security for countries in the Middle East, while failing to provide the resources to resolve the humanitarian crisis on America’s border.”

“Democrats intentionally rolled several provisions into this bill to try and force Republicans to vote for the entire package. Given an opportunity to consider individual items, there are a number that I would have supported, including the bipartisan TikTok ban and continued resources to help Ukraine in their battle against Putin’s tyranny.”
