Rep. Flood Introduces the Ending Green Giveaways Act

December 17, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood introduced the “Ending Green Giveaways Act.” The legislation removes funding from a section of the Inflation Reduction Act which expedites certain federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) targeting “environmental and climate justice challenges.”

“While the American people oppose the Green New Deal, the Biden administration continues to shovel money out the door even though Americans have elected a Republican trifecta that’s set to take office,” said Congressman Flood. “President Trump has promised to roll back the Green New Deal, and this bill takes a key step towards doing that. The Ending Green Giveaways Act returns unused funds from the $3 billion of taxpayers’ money allocated to an out-of-touch, unaccountable ‘environmental justice’ grant program managed by the EPA."

The “Ending Green Giveaways Act” eliminates text related to the “Community Change Grants” program and rescinds any unspent funds allocated to the program under the Inflation Reduction Act. This program, which received $3 billion in federal funding, is expedited by the EPA. The EPA’s Inspector General previously testified before Congress, expressing “[concerns] that, in seeking to reach new recipients, the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights [which administers the grant program] will eschew or elide important internal controls and anti-fraud protections.”
