Rep. Flood to Address Workforce Housing Summit in Columbus on Jan. 23rd

January 12, 2024

COLUMBUS, NEBRASKA – In less than two weeks, Congressman Mike Flood will appear as a special guest to address a Workforce Housing Summit hosted by the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.

“One thing I’ve seen firsthand: When communities decide to invest in housing it makes a difference. You can see results from such efforts right here in the First Congressional District,” said Congressman Flood. “The road to deliver affordable housing options for every American family will be a journey that may take years. And it’s going to take a variety of solutions. It’s critical that we work on this – we’ve got to keep the dream of owning a home alive in America.”

“I am pleased that Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Thompson will be joining us for the event. The FHFA is at the center of housing finance in America, and I know the people of Columbus are eager to bring her up to speed on the unique workforce housing challenges their community faces.”

A recent survey by Lending Tree found that 94% of Americans identified owning a house as a part of the American Dream. But just over half of those who don’t own a home “say they’re worried they never will.” Among their concerns: high home prices, saving for a down payment, student loan debt, and other barriers.

During his remarks, Congressman Flood will address factors have inflated the cost of buying a home, solutions already in play in Nebraska, and how this issue is being addressed at the federal level.

The summit also features speakers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the First Congressional District. Congressman Flood will be available for interviews throughout the summit.
