Congressman Flood Votes to Protect the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Secure America’s Energy Future

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement after voting for the Strategic Production Response Act, a bill that aims to require the Department of Energy to establish a plan to expand domestic energy production before approving non-emergency drawdowns of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a pillar of our nation’s energy security. Over the last several months, President Biden has drawn down the SPR to put more oil on the market as he sought to lower gas prices—gas prices that were driven up by his own policies that were aimed at pleasing Green New Deal activists instead of helping working families who are trying to balance a family budget. The Biden Administration needs to put America back on a path to being energy independent. The Strategic Production Response Act helps to do that by ensuring America is tapping our resources to make energy more affordable long-term instead of relying on short-term fixes like the SPR drawdowns used by President Biden and Washington Democrats.”
