Congressman Flood Votes to Protect America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve

January 12, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement following a vote on H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) from China Act.

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a key part of ensuring America’s economic well-being and national security. Recent sales of SPR oil to an entity linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have raised significant concerns about why the Biden Administration would conduct a business transaction that has the potential to undermine America’s foreign policy aims. This commonsense bill from Rep. McMorris Rodgers restricts any sales of SPR oil to the CCP or entities with ties to it and puts in place an important firewall to ensure this never happens again.”

“In its first week, the new Republican House majority has moved forcefully to counter the CCP. But this is just the beginning. Over the course of the 118th Congress, I will continue to fight to hold the CCP accountable for its human rights abuses, theft of intellectual property, and their attempts to extend their influence over the Pacific Rim region.”
