Congressman Flood Votes to End Pandemic Policies Allowing Expanded Work from Home for Federal Employees

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement following votes on two measures related to ending President Biden’s coronavirus pandemic emergency policies. H. J. Res. 7 would terminate the national emergency related to the coronavirus pandemic that has been extended by President Joe Biden. H.R. 139 (SHOW UP Act) would require federal agencies to return to normal by reinstating telework policies that existed prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
“While private sector businesses largely returned to normal months—or even years—ago, some federal agencies have continued to work from home, hindering normal operations and resulting in slow response times. For example, Nebraskans have shared with me the challenges and long waits they’ve faced seeking help from the Social Security Administration while a significant portion of the agency’s staff continues to telework. Teleworking should only be utilized by federal agencies if it optimizes the customer experience and employee performance. It’s well past time for public sector employees to return to the office, so Americans can more quickly access the services the federal government should be delivering in the normal course of business every day.”
