Congressman Flood Slams President Biden’s New Debt Cancelation Plans

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement after President Joe Biden unveiled new plans to unilaterally wipe out billions of dollars in student loan debts.
“Once again, President Biden is overreaching, attempting to cancel billions of dollars of student loans to buy political goodwill. His action will not only fuel economic inflation, but it also sends a message to Americans that they do not need to exercise personal fiscal responsibility when deciding whether to pursue higher education. It’s fundamentally unfair: Americans without a degree or those who have already paid their student loans shouldn’t be asked to foot the bill for others.”
Last year, Rep. Flood, along with more than 120 House Republicans, filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court supporting Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers’ successful work in Biden v. Nebraska. The Supreme Court agreed with the State of Nebraska’s arguments, overturning Biden’s previous plans to unlawfully cancel student debt.
