Congressman Flood, House Republicans Raise Concerns Over Coast Guard Denying Members’ Religious Exemptions to the COVID Vaccine

October 19, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Flood and House Oversight and Committee Republicans are asking the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to brief the committee on the process used for religious accommodation exemption applications for the COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

"Religious freedom is protected by the U.S. Constitution and federal law,” the Members of Congress wrote in their letter. “Despite these protections, information received by Committee Republicans indicates that the adjudication process for exemption applications was… designed to reach predetermined conclusions… We request a staff-level briefing to assist Committee on Oversight and Reform Republicans in understanding the Coast Guard’s implementation of a process which potentially deprived over 1,300 members of a fair adjudication of their exemption request.”

Here is a full copy of the letter. Congressman Flood is a member of the Committee on House Oversight and Reform as well as the Committee on Small Business.
