Congressman Flood Highlights April 30th Deadline for Law Enforcement Grant Opportunity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a notice that the deadline for applications for the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness (LEMHWA) Program through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is April 30, 2024.
“Law enforcement agencies are grappling with a broader spectrum of challenges today than ever before,” said Congressman Flood. “One the biggest ones: Our police officers are on the front lines of America’s mental health crisis. LEMHWA is a great way to help support local agencies that are often under resourced. I strongly encourage law enforcement agencies across the First Congressional District to check out this program to see if it can help support their work to keep our communities safe.”
According to the DOJ, Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act Program funds are used to improve the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, and other promising practices for wellness programs. The FY24 LEMHWA program will fund projects that develop knowledge, increase awareness of effective mental health and wellness strategies, increase the skills and abilities of law enforcement, and increase the number of law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders using peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, and other promising practices for wellness programs.
