Congressman Flood Encourages First District Youth to Apply for the Congressional Award

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood is encouraging First District Nebraskans aged 13½ to 23 to apply for the Congressional Award program. Each June, gold medal recipients are invited to Washington, D.C. for an award ceremony and reception.
“The Congressional Award Foundation is accepting applications on a rolling basis,” said Congressman Flood. “Whether you’re involved in organizations such as 4-H, Scouts, student government, sports, or other extracurriculars, this is a great opportunity to be recognized for your efforts and achievements. Applications are accepted year-round, so I encourage you learn more about how to participate in this outstanding program on my website.”
Established in 1973, the Congressional Award program is Congress’ only nonprofit initiative and represents the highest civilian honor for our nation’s youth. Each year, the Foundation recognizes individuals based on accomplishments in four categories:
- Voluntary Public Service
- Personal Development
- Physical Fitness
- Expedition/Exploration
