Congressman Flood Co-Sponsors Keep the Nine

January 17, 2023

Last week, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood joined U.S. Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) as he introduced his Keep the Nine constitutional amendment to limit the number of Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court to the current membership of nine.

“From federal agencies to higher education, liberals have attempted to transform and politicize institutions that have long stood as pillars of our democratic republic,” Congressman Flood said. “I don’t always agree with Supreme Court decisions – but when I have disagreements, I don’t suggest the court simply be packed to achieve whatever outcome they want. Such an approach would be dangerous to the stability of our republic and would set a precedent for both parties to simply add members to get whatever outcome they wanted. It’s been nine for some time, and for the sake of stability and the integrity of the Court it needs to stay there.”

Rep. Johnson’s constitutional amendment can be found here. Congressman Flood is a member of the House Financial Services Committee.
