Congressman Flood Calls for Broadband Mapping Deadline Extension

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood wrote to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to urge them to extend the deadline to submit any broadband serviceable location fabric and availability challenges to the FCC’s broadband maps until March 14, 2023.
“Our communities are ready for fast, reliable internet. I understand the need to quickly establish and create this mapping data in order to distribute funds to unserved and underserved areas; however, we cannot sacrifice speed for accuracy.” Congressman Flood said, “Working from incomplete maps only serves to shortchange and undermine the important work that people are already doing in Nebraska and across this nation.”
In the letter, Congressman Flood argues that the deadline needs to be extended to ensure that resources can be fully utilized and the goal of creating accurate data and closing the digital divide can be wholly achieved. A copy of the full letter can be found here.
