Congressman Flood: Biden's New Auto Rule Threatens Nebraska's Rural Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement following the announcement of a new auto emissions rule from the Biden Administration.
“The Biden Administration has repeatedly used the power of the federal government to achieve the policy goals of environmental activists. This new rule, which seeks to shift consumers towards electric vehicles, is a threat to America’s energy independence and Nebraska’s economic future for two reasons. First, shifting America’s auto fleet towards electric cars will increase our country’s dependence on rare earth metals, which are used to manufacture them. Most of the world’s rare earth minerals are mined in China. Second, reducing or eliminating use of internal combustion engines in American cars would devastate the ethanol industry, which is critical to rural vitality. Electric vehicles do not use ethanol. If Americans only drive electric cars, Nebraska will lose billions of dollars in annual economic activity along with thousands of jobs in rural communities across our state.”
