Congressman Flood: Biden's Energy Policy Empowers Foreign Dictators

October 5, 2022

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – Today, Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement following news that OPEC would slash oil production by 2 million barrels a day, starting later this year. This news comes as high gas prices continue to weigh on the family budgets of working Americans.

“Since Joe Biden took office, he has restricted domestic oil development, canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, and driven up gas prices – all in relentless pursuit of Green New Deal policies that are making life more and more expensive for working Nebraskans,” said Congressman Flood. “Biden’s policies are not only driving up gas prices, but they are also putting our national and economic security at risk by empowering foreign dictators, rather than tapping resources here at home that could make America energy independent.”

OPEC+ is an alliance between Russia and the 13 OPEC member countries, which include Congo, Iran, and Venezuela among others.

According to AAA, the average gas price in Nebraska sits at $3.615 per gallon, up from $3.027 per gallon a year ago during President Biden’s first year in office. Under President Trump, gas prices had dipped below $2 per gallon in 2020.
