Congressman Flood Announces U.S. Military Service Academy Nominations for Class of 2029

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood announced the nomination of several constituents from Nebraska’s First Congressional District to the nation’s Military Service Academies. The announcement follows a rigorous interview and selection process, guided by a committee of diverse Nebraskans that included military leaders and community members.
"Many of our nation's brave service members come from the great state of Nebraska," said Congressman Flood. "I am honored to nominate these outstanding and talented Nebraskans from the First District to the Military Service Academies. I also want to thank the committee for their work, which provided valuable insights into each applicant. Congratulations to the nominees on this prestigious achievement."
The committee included retired Brigadier General Roma Amundson of Lincoln (AUS), Dave Merritt of Norfolk (USN), Mace Kant of Norfolk (USAF), and Col. Robert J. Newbauer of Omaha (USACE). Their thorough evaluations considered each applicant's knowledge of the Military Service Academies, their understanding of roles within the Armed Forces, their commitment to serving the nation, academic achievements, and ability to communicate effectively in high-pressure situations.
Based on the committee's recommendations, Congressman Flood nominated applicants who met the stringent academic and physical requirements of the Military Service Academies. These include the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Notably, no applications were submitted for nomination to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
