Congressman Flood Announces U.S. Military Service Academy Nominations for Class of 2027

December 16, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Mike Flood announced the nomination of several First Congressional District constituents to the country’s Military Service Academies. The announcement comes at the conclusion of a rigorous interview and selection process that included the input of a committee of diverse Nebraskans, including military leaders and community members.

“Nebraskans are stepping up to serve as the next generation of leaders in our country’s Armed Forces. It’s an honor to nominate each of these outstanding young Nebraskans to our Military Service Academies,” said Congressman Flood. “I also want to extend a big thanks to the committee who assisted with the process that resulted in the nomination of these outstanding candidates.”

The committee members include Roma Amundson of Lincoln, Lt. Col. Darin Fox (USMC) of Bellevue, Jessica Kolterman of Seward, Dave Merritt of Norfolk, and Col. Fred Phelan of Lincoln (USAF). The committee worked diligently to examine each applicant’s understanding of the nature of the Military Service Academies, the role of Officers in the Armed Forces, the applicant’s desire to serve, their academic records, and their ability to communicate effectively in a high stakes environment.

With the input of the committee, Congressman Mike Flood nominated applicants that met the rigorous academic and physical requirements of the Military Service Academies. There are five U.S. Military Service Academies: U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
