Congressman Flood to Biden Administration: Address Concerns about Huawei Encroaching on U.S. Military Installations

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – U.S. Congressman Mike Flood sent a letter today calling on the U.S. Department of Commerce to investigate the use of Huawei hardware in cell towers located in Nebraska. Huawei has deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and could pose a substantial national security threat due to the technology’s proximity to military installations in Nebraska.
“Nebraska contains a number of military installations critical to U.S. national security. One such site is Offutt Air Force Base, the Headquarters to the United States Strategic Command,” Congressman Flood wrote. “I find it deeply troubling if Huawei has hardware near Offutt or other military bases, missile silos or strategic military locations in the state of Nebraska.”
For years, national security experts have raised concerns that Huawei’s technology could be used to conduct espionage against the CCP’s adversaries and competitors around the world. Both the Trump and Biden Administrations have tightened restrictions on using Huawei equipment in the United States.
