Congressman Flood Introduces Bill to Rollback Taxpayer Funding for Biden’s Green New Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood introduced the “Ending Green Giveaways Act,” a bill to remove funding from a section of the Inflation Reduction Act which expedites certain federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) targeting so-called ‘environmental and climate justice challenges.’
“Last year, the American people resoundingly rejected President Biden’s radical Green New Deal and handed Republicans a trifecta in Washington," said Congressman Flood. "President Trump promised to roll back the Green New Deal, and this bill takes a key step towards doing that. The Ending Green Giveaways Act returns unused funds from the $3 billion of taxpayer money allocated to an out-of-touch, unaccountable ‘environmental justice’ grant program managed by the EPA.”
The “Ending Green Giveaways Act” eliminates text related to “Environmental and Climate Justice Block Grants” under the Inflation Reduction Act. This program, which received $3 billion in federal funding, is expedited by the EPA. The EPA’s Inspector General previously testified before Congress, expressing “[concerns] that, in seeking to reach new recipients, the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights [which administers the grant program] will eschew or elide important internal controls and anti-fraud protections.”
Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10), Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01), Rep. Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Rep. Celeste Maloy (UT-02), and Rep. Scott Perry (PA-10) joined the “Ending Green Giveaways Act” as original co-sponsors.
